For some time now pay per click marketing has been used by new and experienced Internet marketers who want to provide increased traffic to their website in a short space of time. This is the system of choice owing to how successful it is compared to may other types currently available. There are a great many misunderstandings about how pay per click works which I hope will be addressed below.

All that happens here is an advert (some text with a URL link), often in blocks of two or more, is placed on various other websites that are popular and receive large numbers of visitors. Then, whenever anyone clicks that ad, they will be taken to your site, and if they stay there for more than five or ten seconds, you will pay the hosting site a very small amount of money. The only way this system works is by placing adverts on sites that have content relevant to what you are advertising, otherwise it would be a complete waste of time and money. For many people the benefit of only paying when the service is used i.e. when someone actually visits your site cannot be underestimated.

This is where the cost benefits come in against other forms of marketing where there is a cost up front without any guarantee the advert will even be noticed. In the early days it was often said that a competitor would try to deplete their competitors advertising budget by clicking on their link until they used it up but this rarely happens these days. The advantage of this pay per click system is just how directed the advertising is and of course, more effective use of a marketing budget. People who see your ad are already interested in the product or service you are promoting.

The largest and best known of these pay per click services is Google with their AdWords program. Your small ad will show up when people search on Google for a phrase or term that you designate. When you see the results page on entering your search term, you may see the advert at the top of Goggles results or on the right had column.

No-one can argue that this is an extremely fast and efficient way to see you advert and why so many people love pay per click. Many companies use this technique to gauge how good their advertising copy will be before they use it in more expensive areas. For speed, efficiency and cost, pay per click search marketing is superior to just about every other method of advertising and that is why companies continue to use it.
